Learn to Weave!
I have ongoing classes at The Contemporary Austin, Art School at Laguna Gloria.
Weaving for Beginners meets for 7 weeks, 1-4 on Tuesdays, followed by Beyond Basics, also for 7 weeks and 1-4 on Tuesdays.
Weaving for Beginners
No experience is necessary. Learn how to make cloth on a loom. You will learn how to plan a project, choose yarns, warp and set up the loom, and, of course, weave itself. We’ll discuss how color works in weaving and the properties of different types of fiber. Most students complete two or three projects using our simple, versatile, and portable looms; loom rental is included in the supply fee.
Beyond Basics
If you have some familiarity with weaving, this open studio will guide you through your own projects. After reviewing materials and techniques, we will tackle design and work independently. Students have made everything from wall hangings and tapestries to shawls, towels, blankets, and scarves, in materials ranging from wool and cotton to wire and found materials and techniques ranging from lace to balanced plain weave to weft faced. The supply fee includes the rental of a 10-inch-wide Cricket rigid heddle loom, or you are welcome to bring your own, wider loom. Shaft looms are also welcome! Contact the instructor if you have questions or plan to bring a shaft loom
Any class can be repeated.
