Weaving for Beginners

Learn the basics of making cloth on a loom. We will cover planning a project, choosing yarns, warping and setting up the loom, and weaving itself. By the end of the course, you will have discovered a wonderful, addictive new craft and made yourself a scarf or bag to boot — maybe both since our new 7 week schedule will allow you to finish several projects ! A loom rental is included in the supply fee. No experience is necessary.

If you already have some familiarity with the loom and weaving, this Open Studio class will guide you through your own projects. After a review of materials and techniques, we will move on to tackle design and work independently. We can explore inlay and lace techniques, embedded electronics and unusual materials. The supply fee includes the rental of a 10-inch-wide Cricket rigid heddle loom, or you are welcome to bring your own loom. Contact the instructor if you have any questions or plan to bring a shaft loom. A materials list will be provided.
